Hello from the writing batcave! I recently left the confines of my writing batcave to attend a wonderful class on “Novels in Verse” by esteemed poet NIKKI GRIMES for the March 9-10, 2013 SCBWI Writers Day conference. I also will be sneaking out of the batcave on Saturday March 23rd to be a panel speaker at the “BEYOND THE BAD & UGLY: STEREOTYPES AND ASIAN AMERICAN POP CULTURE – A SUMMIT” at the Japanese American National Museum. Time for another "Writer Wednesday" blog!
Hi! Welcome to WRITER WEDNESDAY. I know it’s been a few weeks but better late than never… here is my wrap up blog about the 2011 Society of Children Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) national conference!
As many of you know, my life has been pretty crazy busy as I help wrap up our fifth and final season of EUREKA which airs Mondays at 8 PM on SyFy. (I’m a Producer on this show). So I had to go on a “blog vacation” this summer and haven’t had a chance to post my weekly daily-themed blogs.
Fortunately, I’m back! So for this week’s WRITER WEDNESDAY blog, I figured I would FINALLY post pictures from the annual SCBWI conference. Because of my schedule, I was not able to attend the conference. Instead, I stopped by over the weekend to see some friends and reunite with some of the wonderful writers who participated in my annual National Picture Book Writing Week (aka “NaPiBoWriWee”). (NaPiBoWriWee blog here: http://paulayoo.com/napi/ and info here: http://paulayoo.com/napi/?p=11)

Bestest. Ramadan. Ever. by Medeia Sharif (Flux 2011)
Welcome to WRITER WEDNESDAY! I’m pleased to announce the WINNER of our Medeia Sharif Book Contest Giveway Drawing! The winner will receive an autographed copy of Medeia Sharif’s debut YA novel BESTEST. RAMADAN. EVER. (Flux 2011). Congratulations!
I had posted a blog Q&A with the lovely MEDEIA SHARIF, whose debut novel BESTEST. RAMADAN. EVER. debuted this July 8, 2011 from Flux. It’s a hilarious and touching coming of age story about a young Muslim American teenager named Amira who’s trying her best to respect and obey her strict parents during Ramadan but also trying to catch the eye of a cute boy she likes named Peter who’s not only NOT Muslim, but also… gasp… an artist! BOOKLIST praised her book as ”upbeat and breezy… with a light tone and a focus on family, friends, and faith.” The complete Q&A blog link is here: http://paulayoo.com/blog/?p=521 For more info on Medeia Sharif, please visit her website here: http://www.medeiasharif.com/
