Happy New Year 2013!

Happy New Year 2013 from me & Oreo, Beethoven & Charlotte!

HAPPY NE W YEAR! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season!

What is everyone’s New Year resolutions for 2013? What are your writing goals? What do you hope to acccomplish for the year? Please COMMENT below with your writing projects/goals/dreams for 2013. I’d love to hear what everyone is up to!

My story is still the same… I’ll be busy this year in the writing bat cave working on a few TV and movie script projects as well as a couple of new book ideas. I hope some of the hard work I did in 2012 will pay off soon in 2013. I’ll keep everyone posted, and until then, my fingers are crossed! :)

I’ll try to blog when I can – I usually try to feature writing craft articles, interviews with authors and book giveaways, foodie recipes, and of course, self-indulgent cat blogs. I’ve had to pull back on my blogging recently because of all the writing deadlines I had last year. Thankfully I can still post on Twitter on a more regular basis, so between my blogs, you can keep up with me on Twitter @paulayoo (and you can follow my cats @oreothecatyoo). :)

I’m hoping to wrap up a few deadlines for the month of January, and then hopefully I’ll be back to a more regular schedule of blogging. Until then, I hope everyone has a marvelous 2013. Keep in touch with me on Twitter and you can also keep up with my monthly schedule featured on my website’s home page “YOO INK” column.

And don’t forget, my annual NAPIBOWRIWEE (National Picture Book Writing Week) happens this May 1-7, 2013. Stay tuned for new blogs about that coming up in the next month or so. (For more info on last year’s event, check out this introductory blog: http://paulayoo.com/napi/?p=368) You can keep up with my NAPIBOWRIWEE 2013 plans via this NaPiBoWriWee-specific blog: http://paulayoo.com/napi/

I also posted a new 2013 blog about the May 1-7, 2013 National Picture Book Writing Week event here if you want more details: http://paulayoo.com/napi/?p=436

If you have time, please COMMENT on this blog and let me know what projects you plan to work on, writing-wise. I wish everyone the best of luck with your writing goals this year!

Until the next blog, as always, remember… HAPPY WRITING! WRITE LIKE YOU MEAN IT! HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013! :)

FOODIE FRIDAY: Meet “The Feast Nearby”‘s Robin Mather! Pt. 2

The Feast Nearby by Robin Mather

Welcome to FOODIE FRIDAY! For the month of September, we’ll be celebrating “THE FEAST NEARBY,” the latest book release by my friend, ROBIN MATHER. Today’s blog features Part 2 of our Q&A with Robin. (You can read Part 1 of the Q&A here: http://paulayoo.com/blog/?p=899)

ROBIN MATHER is a veteran food columnist and journalist, as well as a non-fiction book author. I met her when we both wrote for The Detroit News back in the early ’90s. Her food column at the News always made me hungry! She often used food as a metaphor to discuss larger life issues. That tradition continues with her latest book, THE FEAST NEARBY: How I lost my job, buried a marriage, and found my way by keeping chickens, foraging, preserving, bartering, and eating locally (all on forty dollars a week) (Ten Speed Press ’11). For more info, go here: http://thefeastnearby.com/

Part 2 of our two-part Q&A is posted today. Stay tuned for a special recipe from Robin Mather for our Foodie Friday blog to be posted on Fri. 9/23. Many thanks to Robin for taking time out of her busy schedule to join us every FOODIE FRIDAY for the month of September! :)

During the month of September, I’ll also be hosting a book giveaway contest where you have the chance to win a signed copy of Robin’s book! You can participate simply by letting me know via our COMMENTS section or by emailing me at paula at paulayoo dot com with your contact info. I will collect a list of names and pick a winner at random and announce the winner on Friday 9/30. The contest is open between now and Thursday 9/29/11. So join in on the fun! :)

Foodie Friday: 710 Grille in San Pedro

710 Grille in San Pedro, CA (photo courtesy of http://spbxb.wordpress.com/2009/12/06/bite-by-bite-710-grille/)

Welcome to FOODIE FRIDAY! Given the recent heatwave in Los Angeles, I thought it would be appropriate to have a HOT blog about the hottest hot wing sauce EVER.

For this week’s MUSIC MONDAY, I blogged about my King Crimson tribute band The Great Deceivers’ last gig in San Pedro. (The link is here: http://paulayoo.com/blog/?p=801) After our gig, we stopped by the 710 Grille which was walking distance from Alva’s Showroom. I was curious about it because they had a big sign on their window saying that they were featured on Food Network. (710 Grille is located on 710 S. Weymouth Ave., San Pedro, CA. For more info go here: http://www.710grille.com/)

Turns out they were featured on the show, “OUTRAGEOUS FOOD,” in April 2011 for their famous hot wings. (The link is here: http://www.foodnetwork.com/outrageous-food/the-ring-of-fire-hot-wings/index.html) So of course we had to check it out!

(Keep reading after the jump to find out if we tried their hot sauce or not…)
