Live Blogging from Austin (Texas Book Fest Sun 11/2/08)!

Last live blog in Austin before I head to LA... keep reading for a short blog on my yummy gospel brunch with awesome pal Nardo, a hip rocker and professional music promoter!

Pictured above - Nardo and I, and Bartlett the Travel Bear finally getting a taste of Austin's famous "6th Street" of cool night spots and restaurants!

This is a short blog before I fly back to LA. Had a blast at the Texas Book Festival. I'll post more about the last book panel events I participated in from last night in a future blog once I'm back in LA. I woke up late today - thank goodness for the "fall back" extra hour! - and met my friend Nardo, an amazing rock musician and music promoter who is the Austin music expert. He gave me a wonderful walking tour of Austin's famous music night spots and hipster clubs, and I got a chance to check out the famous "6th Street" area of hot nightclubs!

We went to Stubbs, a famous club and restaurant that has this popular Sunday gospel brunch. Below is a picture of the delicious spread (everything from pancakes and eggs to the softest, juiciest yummiest barbecued brisket and of course sweets like homemade pecan pie!) and a shot of Bartlett Bear enjoying the tunes of the rock solid gospel band.

I had a blast talking with Nardo about the Austin music scene and met some of his cool friends, including a relative of American iconic novelist Norman Mailer! I'll post a more detailed blog about all of this when I'm back in LA. Until then, if you're interested in going to the gospel brunch at Stubbs, check out their website here:

Back to LA and more Austin final blogs to come, so stay tuned!

It was super cool meeting you/seeing you at the Panel yesterday! I'm so looking forward to reading your book! I loved what you said about positive/negative stereotypes, and about what it means to be labeled popular or unpopular. As a girl who spent a lot of time worrying about social struggles in high school, I have come to realize that we ALL struggled - and to throw labels on everyone doesn't make adolescence any better or worse. It just devalues something we all go through. I talk to a lot of teens, and as much as I'd like to think they listen to me, I think they'd rather hear it from someone cool like a YA author :)

PS - I love queso, too. Where I (we!) come from, it's just called nacho cheese and is usually some form of cheez whiz. The Alamo Draft House has my favorite queso - if you're still in town, you must try it!

Hey Emily, it was fantastic to meet you as well and thanks for the kind words and queso trivia! :) I have also heard high praise about your own writing and can't wait to see your first book, so keep writing!
