NaNoWriMo 2009: We Have a Winner! (Sat 11/28/09)

Day 28 of NaNoWriMo 2009 (National Novel Writing Month) and I did it! Did what? Keep reading to find out...
I wrote 50,100 words of my new novel in 30 days! My NaNoWriMo site is here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/170463 But this doesn't mean I'm stopping... this is a longer novel, so I've got to keep plugging along. So although NaNoWriMo ends soon, the writing doesn't! Although I did get a cute little certificate above that I am posting above my desk for inspiration! (And yes, that's Bartlett Bear trying to steal my certificate!)
I did write 50,000 words in one month before... and only once. I wrote my YA novel "GOOD ENOUGH" (HarperCollins 2008) in five weeks. The word count was exactly 50,000 words. Of course, I then revised it A LOT afterwards, but getting that first draft done was such a relief. So I thought maybe this time I could do it again with NaNoWriMo - and happily, lightning struck twice. Now, this doesn't mean my 50,100 words are any good. LOL! But it's a start, and the whole point of writing is to FINISH. Keep writing, every day no matter what! Ultimately, there are a lot of talented writers out there... but talent is only half the battle. You gotta FINISH what you start.
I'll blog a more detailed post about my NaNoWriMo adventures, plus some novel-writing book recommendations for all of you who also participated! I'd love to hear your stories from the novel trenches, so please comment away!
Until my next blog, I hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving weekend. Happy Writing!
