On the Road - May 5 & 6
Hey! Wow, I'm exhausted and I've only been on tour for two days. Will try to post live on the road. I hope to post a picture gallery by this weekend, but it depends on my email access as I "rough it" out here on the road!
Some brief updates for now, and I'll post a more detailed blog in the next day or so....
MONDAY MAY 5:
3:30 p.m. Arrive in Seattle after flight was delayed for three hours. Did some work at LAX on my MacBook (I have a TV script deadline while I'm on book tour... hooray for bad timing!
)
5:00 p.m. Arrive at ALL FOR KIDS BOOKS & MORE, a wonderful and amazing children's book store in the University of Washington area near University Village. I'm staying with their bookstore owner during my visit here. (She was so kind and generous to offer her home to me!) I hang out for awhile and meet a good friend of mine for dinner (more details in a later blog with pictures). Then went home to sleep!
TUESDAY MAY 6:
10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. I speak to several classes at SUMMIT k-12, thanks to a program called Writers in Schools (more details on this in a later blog with pics once I can find a wireless cafe to do so, right now I'm writing this on my host's PC!). The kids were GREAT and several are now my friend on myspace! Yay! I had a lot of fun and the kids asked great questions. Summit k-12 is a fantastic school!
2 p.m. to 6 p.m. I found a cool coffeehouse across the street from the bookstore called Zoka. They have free wireless. Everyone's sitting at a table with a laptop. Great food and coffee and atmosphere. Got work done on my TV script because I had a 5 p.m. conference call with the people I'm working for at the network.
6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wandered around University Village, bought a jean jacket from Eddie Bauer because I did not bring a jacket, being the silly LA girl that I am and am FREEZING up here. (What a wimp, huh? And to think I grew up in New England... shame on me!
) Had a yummy burger at this cool brewpub called the Ram and chatted with a Seattlite who had moved to Seattle in 1992, the same year as me! He stayed and I left in 1993. I asked about all the clubs that I used to go to in 1992 to see bands (RCKCNDY, Off Ramp, Crocodile Cafe etc.) and he told me they all are gone! I was so sad to hear the Seattle of my 20s is no longer the same.
However, I still love Seattle and fantasize all the time about coming back here!
9 p.m. Went home, missed American Idol, found clips of it on youtube, then crashed.
Today, I'm getting ready to speak at two schools and I do my signing/talk at ALL FOR KIDS BOOKS at 4:30 today. I'm meeting another old friend and his family for dinner - I can't wait!
I'll post more blogs later this week with pictures soon... until then, time to get ready for my "gigs"!
