This course introduces a range of writing for children, including picture books, novels, poetry, and nonfiction. Aimed toward teaching the practical tools used to create unforgettable stories, the course examines the structure of a good book, including the use of plot, characterization, and dialogue. The student's goal is to complete a draft of a picture book or a chapter and brief outline of a work for older readers. Enrollment limited to 20 students. This "green" course provides course materials online to minimize paper waste; Internet access required. UCLA: 122 Haines Hall; Wednesday, 7-10pm; June 24 - August 26; ten meetings total; No refund after July 1.

I started taking classses at UCLA Extension Writers' Program back in 1996. Taking classes at this program definitely helped me on the road to publication. It's a fantastic program and you should consider enrolling! Hope to see you in class!
