EUREKA Music Monday: eTunes! (i.e. “Eureka Tunes!”)

EUREKA Music Monday: eTunes! (i.e. “Eureka Tunes!”)

SyFy's EUREKA Season 4.5 debuts Mon. July 11, 2011 at 8 PM!

Welcome to a special EUREKA WEEK edition of the paulayoo.com blog! I am a producer on the show EUREKA, which airs on SyFy. I started as a Co-Producer for Seasons 4.0 and 4.5, and I’m currently a Producer for our 5th season. Because our EUREKA’s Season 4.5 debuts this week, I’ve decided to devote an entire week to Eureka-themed blogs.

Today is Music Monday. So I figured, why not introduce you to some of our Eureka-related music in anticipation of our Season 4.5 launch? I’m going to call it “eTunes,” i.e. Eureka Tunes! 🙂

Remember…  EUREKA’s Season 4.5 debuts tonight, Monday July 11th at 8 PM on SyFy, followed by Warehouse 13 and Alphas!

(Keep reading after the break for more “eTunes”!)

Let’s start today’s MUSIC MONDAY Eureka-themed blog with an introduction to our resident show composer, BEAR MCCREARY. Bear McCreary is a talented composer and musician with degrees in Composition and Recording Arts from the prestigious USC Thornton School of Music. He’s famous for his score to SyFy’s BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and was listed by I09.com as one of the “Ten Best Science Fiction Composers” of all time. His other credits include the movie STEP UP 3D (Touchstone), THE WALKING DEAD series on AMC, and NBC’s series THE CAPE, along with many more amazing credits. For more info on him, please check out his website which includes his blog, bio, and many music samples: http://www.bearmccreary.com/

DEVO leader, artist, composer Mark Mothersbaugh wrote the EUREKA theme!

As for the famous EUREKA main theme? It was written by famous music geek and DEVO singer MARK MOTHERSBAUGH. A successful artist, musician, and composer, Mothersbaugh has written scores for many other TV shows and movies and video games. He met Devo co-founders Jerry Casale and Bob Lewis when he was an art student at Kent State. As a composer, he’s written music for such films as Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic, as well as children’s TV shows Rugrats, Beakman’s World, and Clifford the Big Red Dog. He also wrote music for many video games, including my favorite video game theme from Sony’s Crash Bandicoot! 🙂 He currently hosts a drawing segment on Nick Jr’s television series, Yo Gabba Gabba! called Mark’s Magic Pictures, teaching children how to draw simple pictures that often come alive at the end of the segment.

I am also a huge DEVO fan and own all their albums. I know most folks only know Devo for their famous hit “Whip It,” but you gotta check out their other albums. They are amazing. Here’s one of my favorite live performances of Devo from the awesome cult music movie, “URGH! A MUSIC WAR,” doing “Uncontrollable Urge,” one of my favorite Devo songs:

And because I LOVED playing Crash Bandicoot, here’s the music from that game, too! 🙂

Finally, here are two very cool youtube videos from EUREKA fans who are also talented musicians!

Here’s one EUREKA fan named Tally, a lovely and talented young musician, who wrote a lovely song about our Smart House, S.A.R.A.H., called “This Song Is On the House.”

And here is talented pianist Genesis Bacani, who has a bunch of fun piano tutorials on how to play the theme songs from many movies and TV series, including our own EUREKA!

I’ve followed Bear’s career for a long time, and was so happy when he showed up on Eureka. The Carter/Allison love theme is a great example of why his work is so sublimely beautiful.

Sublimely beautiful – I agree! His music really adds depth to the more emotional scenes, and he also has a light touch with the comedic moments too!
