Welcome to Foodie Friday! This time, I’m writing a short blog about one of my favorite new hangouts, THE MERCANTILE in Los Angeles. It’s a fun foodie wine bar/brunch restaurant on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. It’s close to my job at EUREKA and they have some fantastic foodie items on the menu!

I love this place so much that I insist on calling it “THE MERC.” I’m hoping to start a trend. LOL! 🙂

(Keep reading after the jump for more foodie yummy pix!)

I would post pictures of their happy hour food, but it was too dark. So instead, I’ll let you know of some of my favorite items: chicken liver mousse with pickled red onion and crusty bread; burrata with marinated cherry peppers, pine nuts, and salted capers; sauteed shrimp with garlic, parsley, lemon and smoked paprika; roasted beets with local Drake Farms goat cheese, wild arugula and toasted hazelnuts, and their cheese and charcuterie plates.

Yum! And all reasonably priced!

I love hanging out at their bar because I can relax, listen to good music, eat yummy eats and write. It’s kind of a fun writing hang out as well for me. I’ve been there several times with many writer friends!

I recently had brunch there, so I wanted to post some pics from our brunch. I had their famous Croque Madame with country bread, ham, gruyere, bechamel sauce, Dijon and sunny side up egg…

My friends gobbled up their yummy brunch dishes, which included the Veggie Hash (asparagus and other veggies) with potatoes and sunny side up eggs and Hollandaise sauce…

… and a gourmet version of Huevos Rancheros with queso fresco!

Anyway, I could go on and on about this favorite new hang-out spot. But why not find out for yourself? Check it out here:  http://www.themercantilela.com/

  1. Hey, When we lived in LA, this was one of our favorite afternoon places to hang out before a movie at the Arclight. We’d just walk the few blocks and relax with a light bite and a glass of wine. If you haven’t already, check out District, which has the same owners and is right next door. It’s only open for dinner and is a bit more expensive, but the last time we ate there it was wonderful. (The Executive Chef has changed since then, but I’m willing to bet the restaurant is still great.)

That’s so cool you loved Merc, ML! We did eat at District but it already closed. 🙁 They are starting a new place there called the Township, so I’ll report on it when it opens!

      • That’s too bad. I guess once Kris Morningstar left they couldn’t recover. Hopefully the new place will be as good. By the way, we ate Morningstar’s food at Blue Velvet, and then he moved to District, which was also great under him. Now he’s at Ray’s, which is the new restaurant at LACMA. We ate there when we were in town a few weeks ago to see the Tim Burton exhibit. It was an excellent lunch as well. I suggest you try it out. (and the Burton exhibit was fun too, although exhausting in it’s scope.)
