Music Monday: Musical Books!

Music Monday: Musical Books!

Me today with my Fender electric violin! Rock on! 🙂

Welcome to MUSIC MONDAY and another brand new week of daily blogs! Today’s blog is about some new music books I’ve finally added to my reading list…

Punk Rock Pulitzer Winner!

JENNIFER EGAN, “A VISIT FROM THE GOON SQUAD” (Anchor Books, 2010): I am LOVING this linked short story collection about aging Gen X punk rockers dealing with lost personal connections in the age of the Internet where you past CAN come back to haunt you in ways you never expected…

National Book Award Winner "JUST KIDS"

PATTI SMITH, “JUST KIDS” (HarperCollins 2010): I can’t wait to start reading this National Award winning memoir by one of my favorite musicians and poets. The late ’70s punk rock scene in New York is one of my favorite musical time periods, so I am very eager to read about Patti’s life, love, and musical passions!

Nocturnes, a short story collection

KAZUO ISHIGURO, “NOCTURNES” (Vintage 2009): I recently picked this up at the airport because I’m a huge Ishiguro fan, and I hadn’t realized his Nocturnes story collection was now in paperback. I absolutely heart his gorgeous writing and am eager to see how he deals with music in this book. (I also loved his novel about the pianist in THE UNCONSOLED.)

Nick Hornby, "Juliet, Naked"

NICK HORNBY, “JULIET, NAKED” (Riverhead 2009): Another new book I picked up this year. Once I finish the Egan, Smith and Ishiguro books, I’ll be heading straight for this book because I love how Horny incorporates music and love in his novels in a way that isn’t cloyingly hip but honest and authentic.

Well, that’s it for Music Monday. A shorter blog, I know, but it’s a busy work week at EUREKA for me! Stay tuned for tomorrow’s TV TUESDAY blog. Until then, Happy Writing! WRITE LIKE YOU MEAN IT! 🙂

    I’ll have to try one of those books; I recently read something about the Patti Smith one (darned if I remember what). I’m not very talented musically, I’m afraid, although once upon a time, I thought about being an opera singer. :}
