Music Monday: Post-Alva’s Gig Pix & Gear Geek Talk!

The Great Deceivers - a King Crimson Tribute band!

Welcome to another MUSIC MONDAY blog. I try to blog about music when I can, given my violin background! Today’s blog has photos from my last gig at Alva’s Showroom in San Pedro with the King Crimson tribute band, THE GREAT DECEIVERS.

For more info on my band, check out my last Music Monday blog here:

Welcome to Alva's Showroom in San Pedro, CA!

Our last gig was July 31, 2011 at Alva’s Showroom in San Pedro, CA. It was an extremely HOT day but worth the trip! 🙂

I’m just posting some fun pics from our gig…

Here’s the stage set up before we started hauling in our gear…

Setting up for the gig...

My gear onstage is constantly changing as I experiment with different sounds. Some of my previous set-ups included my Fender electric violin with Fender Blues Jr. amp…

Me today with my Fender electric violin! Rock on! 🙂

… along with my BOSS ME-50 Multiple Guitar Effects pedal board

and LR Baggs Para Acoustic Di Active Direct Box and Preamp…

LR Baggs Pre Amp!

But as I fooled around with different sounds and effects, I realized a cheap violin I bought in Hollywood plugged directly into the house’s PA system worked fine too, as long as I used my Fender Blues Jr. amp as a backup monitor. I had bought this red violin for a Halloween gig last year. I saw a violin & case for $180.00 and immediately haggled it down to…

… 45 bucks.

Yup. $45.00. I’m THAT good. 🙂 Here’s a picture of me dressed up as a nurse with the red violin for our Halloween gig. LOL!

But for our Alva’s gig, at the last minute, I saw this cute adorable Line VI “Spider IV” 15-watt amp on sale at Guitar Center. I used it with my Fender electric violin and voila…. I fell in love. Such a clean, nice sound with the perfect effects. I am going to explore this set up more and do more tweaks to it…

My new amp!

Anyway, now here are some pictures from our soundcheck:

Thanks again to the awesome ALVA’S SHOWROOM for hosting our gig this past July! You should check out their lineup for the fall – this place features some awesome bands. For more info, go here: http://www.alvasshowroom.com/

After our gig, we hung out at the famous 710 Grille in San Pedro. They were featured on Food Network’s “Outrageous Foods” for their infamous “Ring of Fire” hot sauce.

So obviously… I AM GOING TO POST A FOODIE FRIDAY BLOG ON THIS PLACE! 🙂 Come back to my blog on Sept. 10, 2011 for a Foodie Friday blog on this hot sauce! 🙂

So that’s it for Music Monday. Hope you enjoyed this week’s blog. Come back for my Foodie Friday blog this week on the 710 Grille where the band hung out afterwards, plus the rest of this week’s daily blogs. Including tomorrow’s TV TUESDAY blog on my last day (sob) at Eureka… Until then, HAPPY WRITING! WRITE LIKE YOU MEAN IT! 🙂

I think if I could learn an instrument now, it would be the violin. 🙂 When I was in school, my instrument of choice was my voice.

What, no comments about the nurse’s costume? For shame… well, I think it’s cute.

When you were haggling over the violin, did you say, “I’m going to play it in a King Crimson tribute band, wearing a nurse’s costume with highlights the same color as the violin.”? That should’ve knocked off two-thirds of the price. 😀

Had you done any amplified work when you were in the GHYO, or were you strictly acoustic then? Very interesting that you’re using a guitar effects pedal, though I imagine it’d all work pretty much the same.

LOL! Actually, I knew the costume was red, hence the red violin! Only acoustic at GHYO LOL! Guitar effects work better with the electric Fender violin, not the acoustic, tho…
