Music Monday: The Great Deceivers/King Crimson Tribute Gig!

The Great Deceivers, a King Crimson Tribute Band!

Welcome to Music Monday! I took a week vacation from blogging last week because I was busy at COMIC CON 2011 in San Diego for our show EUREKA (Mondays 8 PM SyFy). Stay tuned for a ComicCon wrap-up blog for tomorrow’s TV Tuesday blog. But now I’m back to our regularly scheduled programming of Music Monday, TV Tuesday, Writer Wednesday, Tuna Thursday, and Foodie Friday! 🙂

Today’s Music Monday blog is about my band, a King Crimson tribute band called THE GREAT DECEIVERS. We have a gig this Sunday July 31st at Alva’s Showroom in San Pedro at 4 PM.

(Keep reading after the break to find out more about our gig!)

The real King Crimson!

I joined The Great Deceivers in 2009. For those of you who don’t know much about KING CRIMSON, they are a very famous and influential prog rock band from the late ’60s onwards who mix everything from classical to rock to heavy metal to New Wave and jazz into a prog rock cocktail.  They’ve influenced TONS of today’s alt rock bands from Primus to Tool with their innovative sound.

From our band website:

The Great Deceivers are an L.A. based band that pays tribute to art rock titans King Crimson. They primarily focus on the creatively fertile early 70’s repertoire, but also explore selections from the guitar-driven 80’s and 90’s. Formed three years ago as the brainchild of Paul Morris, this diverse group of musicians set out to pay homage to and faithfully reproduce some of the most challenging, original music of this most revered and influential band.

Now that the original King Crimson has ceased touring and recording, TGD offers audiences an opportunity to enjoy this timeless music live, and re- experience the innovative ideas that influenced legions of musicians, from Genesis to Primus to Tool. Long Live the King!”

Paul Morris ~ drums and percussion
Dennis Mahon ~ vocals, keyboards and percussion
