Camp NaNoWriMo 2013

Hi! The latest summer dispatches from the Writing Batcave…

I hope everyone is having a great summer so far! This is a quick blog to update you on my latest writing projects. For TV, I’m having a blast working on a couple of fun script projects with my reps. With books, I’m doing final edits on my fourth book (coming out soon from LEE & LOW BOOKS ) and also revising a new children’s chapter book.

I’m also participating in this year’s CAMP NANOWRIMO! From July 1-31, I’ll be trying to finish an adult novel-in-progress that I’ve been working on and off again for a few years. It recently placed as a semi-finalist at the Faulkner-Wisdom Writing Competition, and a chapter placed as a Top 25 finalist for the Glimmer Train fiction award. So I know I’m on the right track with this book so far! I’m “ViolinGirl” on the Camp NaNoWriMo site here: http://campnanowrimo.org

Because I’m DEEP into my writing, I’m going on a Twitter/Facebook/All Social Media Vacation (plus a Real Life Social Sabbatical) in order to finish what I’ve started. I was inspired by one of my writing heroes, Neil Gaiman. Check out this article about how he announced he too would be going on a social media vacation: http://therumpus.net/2013/06/neil-gaiman-prepares-for-six-month-sabbatical-from-social-media/

Yes, social media outlets (blogs, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, pinterest etc.) are all very helpful promotional tools for writers. They also provide a sense of fun and community for writers who often are stuck in their lonely writing batcaves. 🙂 But sometimes, when you’re deep into a project, you have to shut down all distractions and WRITE. That’s where I am right now!

I’ll be back on Twitter and posting new blogs here by the fall of 2013. As a reminder – because of my busy schedule, unfortunately I do NOT have time to critique people’s writing (not even for a paid professional fee) and I do not have time to answer individual emails with personal questions about writing craft issues and career advice. I am also not available for consultation meetings. I recommend you check out my helpful FAQs for any and all of your writing questions and requests. The link is below:
