Tuna Thursday: Beethoven & Charlotte’s Adoption Day One-Year Anniversary!

Tuna Thursday: Beethoven & Charlotte’s Adoption Day One-Year Anniversary!

August 1, 2010: The day I adopted Beethoven and Charlotte!

Hi! After a summer hiatus where I was swamped with job deadlines, I’m back to blogging on a more regular schedule. And as promised, here’s the latest TUNA THURSDAY blog where I blog self-indulgently about my three cats Oreo, Beethoven, and Charlotte. For some reason, this is my most popular blog. Hmmm! ๐Ÿ™‚

Today’s blog, as promised from a few weeks ago, is an Adoption Day anniversary blog commemorating the one-year anniversary date of when we adopted Beethoven and Charlotte! (Adoption Day was August 1, 2010).

Long story short: I adopted my first cat Oreo on April 15, 2008. He was my schmoopie pie for two amazing years. He was such a curious, loveable cat. But I noticed he seemed lonely, and I read about how important it can be for indoor cats to have playmates so they don’t get too bored and restless. Our cat sitter, Ginger, who is also a licensed veterinarian technician, had rescued two kittens who were the only ones who survived a litter that was born in an apartment garage. (You may remember Ginger from a previous TUNA THURSDAY blog here: https://paulayoo.com/blog/?p=700)ย She started texting pictures and emails of these two kittens. She felt we would be the best parents for these kittens. After a few months of hesitation (THREE cats? I wasn’t sure I could handle it…), we caved in and agreed to meet Beet and Char on August 1, 2010. And the rest is history…

(Keep reading after the jump about our first few months with our new kittens!)

On August 1, 2010, we met Beethoven and Charlotte. Charlotte was ironically the brave one at first, who ventured out of the cage to knead and purr on our afghan! Look how tiny she was back then!

Tiny Charlotte loves kneading this afghan!

Beethoven finally came out of the cage and I knew instantly from this expression below that Beet was going to be a TROUBLEMAKER….

Charlotte showed an affinity for paper…

… while Beethoven showed an affinity for ripping up paper towels!

But Beethoven and Charlotte are rarely apart. When Charlotte started sleeping in a basket…

… brother Beethoven was not far behind, trying to fit INTO the basket with her!

The kittens were always together, even asleep. We called them “kitty bookends,” that’s how close they are…

Fortunately, Oreo loved Beethoven and Charlotte immediately. We never had any trouble with Oreo’s transition from a one-cat household to a three-cat household. He and Beethoven immediately started male bonding, hanging out to watch TV together…

And Oreo would instinctively protect our “Princess Charlotte” and take care of her when she was tired…

And Oreo made sure Beethoven and Charlotte healed quickly from their spade/neuter surgery. And he did not laugh at their cones of shame. Okay, maybe once or twice. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now the three cats are inseparable. It’s Oreo and his minions!

So I’m catching up on some blogs and hope you enjoyed this one. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s FOODIE FRIDAY blog and of course, more TUNA THURSDAY blogs this fall! Until then, HAPPY WRITING! Kitty Love!! Head bonks and nuzzles to you all! And don’t give Beethoven a hard time about paper towels…they are paper after all! (just a softer kind) ๐Ÿ™‚
