Tuna Thursday: Cats and Chairs!
Welcome to TUNA THURSDAY! So every week, I worry that I’ve run out of blog ideas for this cat-oriented subject. This week, I was like, hmmm, so far I’ve posted pictures of my cats sleeping, cats with my computer… what else can I post?
And then a friend had an awesome chair he needed to give away because they are redecorating their house. We need a new cool reading chair, so I said we would take his chair.
My friend delivered the chair last week to our house. It’s pictured above. And who IMMEDIATELY came over to make the chair home? Oreo, Beethoven and Charlotte of course.
This got me thinking… my three cats LOVE chairs. They are always taking over the chairs in our house. So I started downloading all the photos I have my cats in chairs, and the evidence was overwhelming. Yes. I have enough information collected to write an entire blog on… CATS AND CHAIRS. 🙂
(Keep reading after the jump for photos of my Chair Cats! And don’t forget to follow my Oreo on Twitter: @oreothecatyoo)
Director Oreo sits in his chair with his assistants Charlotte and Beethoven by his side as he waits for the next scene of his movie, “SQUIRRELS AND HUMMINGBIRDS” to unfold.
I have an old dining room chair that I use at my writing desk. Oreo always scratches it to get my attention…
Evidence of Oreo’s scratches on my writing chair! Gah!
Whenever it’s sunny outside, Oreo and Charlotte like to cuddle on our ancient IKEA chair by the living room window to watch the squirrels outside…
We recently renovated our guest bedroom and bought this gorgeous red chair from Plummers. Charlotte and Beethoven commandeered it immediately. Thankfully they do NOT scratch it, but we have tons of cat hairs all over it, so they are now banned from the guest bedroom!
Kitty bookends! Charlotte and Beethoven like to cuddle on this cheap ottoman/storage unit we have in our living room. It is permanently covered in cat hairs. Ick!
Charlotte loves sitting on top of our toilet. Beethoven, however, loves to jump INSIDE the toilet and splash around. They LOVE water and are not afraid of it. (Char and Beet are Turkish Vans, cats famous for their love of water. They are also known as the “Swimming Cats.”) So we not have to keep all the bathroom doors shut for fear of Beet and Char swimming in the toilet. LOL! 🙂
OREO!!!!!!! Oreo NEVER scratched our furniture. He always used the scratching post (pictured on the left of the couch). But when we went out of town for a week and used a catsitter for the first time in Oreo’s life, he was so freaked out by our absence that he went nuts and scratched the heck out of our couch. Sob. So we need a new couch, obviously. For now, we use an old sheet to cover it when company visits! 🙂
And I could not ban Oreo from our scratched up coach. We always sit on it and watch TV together every night. What a spoiled kitty!

So I hope you enjoyed my Cats and Chairs magnum opus. What a thrilling blog, huh? Golly, what am I gonna blog about next week? Hmmm…. Stay tuned for Foodie Friday tomorrow! Until then, Happy Writing! WRITE LIKE YOU MEAN IT! 🙂

At least he scratches the chair. Toledo uses my leg. He’ll pat, first, and if I don’t actually give him lovings, out come the claws.
I should take a picture of my writing setup for next week’s Tuna Tuesday on my blog. I actually have to set up a small ottoman for Toledo so that he can sit next to me when I write. If I don’t, all hell breaks loose (ie my leg ends up in bleeding shreds).
Have you tried SoftClaws? I can’t use them right now, because I’m not able to do it without assistance on either of the cats, but they are GREAT to prevent the scratching of furniture.
Kelly – Soft claws! Never heard of that. We put tape on our couch now. LOL!
Did you intend to get monochromatic cats? Very striking – I particularly like the “on the red chair” photo.
LOL Fitz, it was a coincidence that we got three b&w kitties but now I am partial to black and white cats in general! 🙂
I love the pix of the cats sharing the chairs. What is up with Beethoven trying to make toilet diving an Olympic sport? The cats are just trying to establish a “lived in look” with the furniture…
LOL yes Beet’s obsession with water is very odd. But I think he’s a Turkish Van, and they are partial to water and are known as the “swimming cats.”
I think I know why your cats love chairs: you have hardwood floors and cats hate hardwood floors! ;D Well, they sort of do anyway. We have friends whose cats go to lengths to avoid their hardwood floor areas. I used to have a cat that didn’t mind them too much; she’d do those Tom Cruise-Risky Business type slides on them for fun. LOL!
