Media Monday: “Clash of the Titans” – My Eureka Episode Airs Tonight!

Me & Eureka special guest star Wallace Shawn taking a break on the set of "Clash of the Titans," co-written by Eric Tuchman & Paula Yoo!

Hi! I hope everyone is having a great summer. I’ve been on a blog “vacation” because of my work schedule. I normally try to do daily blogs with themes (including Music Mondays, TV Tuesdays, Writer Wednesdays, Tuna Thursdays, and Foodie Fridays) but I’ve been rather busy lately with my job as Producer on the SyFy series EUREKA.

Today, instead of a MUSIC MONDAY blog, I’m hosting a MEDIA MONDAY blog to talk about my show Eureka because we’ve been in the news lately. πŸ˜› As many of you know, we were quite the breaking news and media firestorm this month due to the untimely announcement that we would not be getting a sixth season renewal. Instead, our show’s fifth and final season will air some time next year. We are wrapping up production on the fifth season this summer and moving on to hopeful new jobs on other fun TV shows. It has been such an honor and privilege – as well as a ton of fun! – working for this wonderful TV drama series. πŸ™‚

But I am not going to blog or dwell upon the sad news that our series EUREKA will be coming to a close. πŸ™ Instead, I want to focus on the fun and positive exciting news that WE STILL HAVE SEVERAL EPISODES LEFT OF OUR CURRENT SEASON 4.5! And we also have an amazing Season 5.0 that will air next year. So Eureka’s not done yet – we still have TONS of NEW EPISODES airing between now and next year. πŸ™‚

In fact, my latest Eureka episode, “CLASH OF THE TITANS,” airs tonight, Monday August 22, 2011 at 8 PM on SyFy. This episode was co-written with the amazing co-executive producer ERIC TUCHMAN. It’s about romance and uh, poison (hmmmm!) and it features special guest star WALLACE SHAWN (of “Princess Bride” and “My Dinner With Andre” fame!). Our show is followed by Warehouse 13 at 9 PM and Alphas at 10 PM. It’s a powerful Monday lineup on SyFy! πŸ™‚ (Preview video of my episode here:Β http://video.syfy.com/shows/eureka/v1347183)

I started out as a Co-Producer of EUREKA during Season 4.0 and 4.5. I am currently a producer on this fun show for its 5th season. EUREKA is a fun drama series about a secret town of scientific geniuses who work on classified government projects. Of course, something is always going awry with some genius’ experiment, and it’s up to our hero Sheriff Jack Carter to save the day. Ironically, Carter is NOT a genius, but his common sense and Everyman sensibilities helps him see the forest for the trees, unlike our detail-obsessed scientists.

For our Season 4.5, our characters have discovered a way to travel faster-than-light, attracting government attention. They are selected to use their FTL drive for a research trip to Titan (one of Saturn’s moons). Think “The Right Stuff” as our characters all compete for the coveted and limited spots on the Astraeus mission to Titan. Who will make it? Who will be stuck in Eureka? And in our episode, “CLASH OF THE TITANS,” we feature a ton of romance and uh… poison. Plus Wallace Shawn. Hmmm! πŸ™‚ Tune in to find out what happens! πŸ™‚

I had a blast working on this episode with the awesome ERIC TUCHMAN. He is an amazing writer and co-executive producer on EUREKA. His other numerous credits include writing for for a variety of shows, from ABC Family’s KYLE XY to the classic DR. QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN.

Here’s a photo of Eric Tuchman, our show’s star COLIN FERGUSON (“Sheriff Jack Carter”) and I at this year’s ComicCon in San Diego. Eric is also the tallest writer on our staff, and I am the shortest. Can you guess our height difference? πŸ™‚ (Hint: I am 4’11” for those of you calculating the math…)

L-R: co-executive producer Eric Tuchman, actor Colin Ferguson ("Sheriff Jack Carter"), and moi!

I am also in charge of doing these silly little cartoons of everyone on our writing staff for our Eureka Writers Blog.

As for working with Wallace Shawn (or “Wally Shawn”), wow…! Who knew I would have the honor to meet such an amazing actor and author/playwright/screenwriter? He was such a pro on set – he blew me away with his amazing acting skills, comedic chops, and hard work ethic. And what a thrill to meet one of my favorite characters from “The Princess Bride”! πŸ™‚ He told me that he too played the violin – we totally bonded over the violin in the van trip from the Eureka production office to the sets. My dream now? A violin duet with Wally Shawn. πŸ™‚ How cool would that be?!

Anyway, stay tuned for tonight’s episode. For some more details, here’s a TV Fanatic link with more info and video previews on our episode “CLASH OF THE TITANS”:

How awesome to read about all you have done for Eureka and to get a personal glimpse behind the scenes of one of my favorite shows. I thank you very much!

I always thought Collin Ferguson was about 6 feet tall. So is Eric Tuchman 6’5″? Wow, he’s tall! πŸ™‚ although, I did know a guy who was 6’7″ I used to spar against him in Tae Kwon Do many moons ago. πŸ™‚ Too funny because he would just put his foot on my chest and keep me at bay…but if I got up under that long leg of his, I could really get a good one on him. πŸ˜€

Wish I could be writing right along side you! I think it would be so fun!

So can’t wait to see your tweet stream tonight! Will you be starting on Eastern Time Zone? Hope so!

Thank you LadyJai! πŸ™‚ really appreciate it. 6’7″ for your Tae kwon Do sparring? WOW! πŸ™‚ Eric is 6’2″ so we are 15 inches apart (I am 4’11”) LOL!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the episode!!! Once again Eureka knocks it out of the park! It breaks my heart to think this show will come to an end one day. πŸ™ For now though, I will enjoy every episode that’s left! πŸ™‚

    • paulayoo says:

Thanks Gina!!!! I really appreciate it. Yes, let’s think glass half full for now. πŸ™‚

Fabulous episode – quirky, geeky, silly, paranoid, romantic – all sorts of twists & turns. I did kind of expect Wallace to break out with “I’m just getting started!” (with a lisp, of course, so maybe more like, “I’m jutht getting thtarted!”). Keep up the good work, and let us know if you get the duet. πŸ˜€

    • paulayoo says:

Thanks Fitz, and yes, Wally was sooooo fun to work with! πŸ™‚

      • Fitz Bushnell says:

His going with the, “This isn’t the Spanish Inquisition” line in the next episode was a scream. No, really – I had to scream, “No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!” Yes, I know – a cliche, but a classic.
