Tuna Thursday: My First Cat Show!

Tuna Thursday: My First Cat Show!

My First Cat Show - August 28, 2011 in Santa Monica, CA

Welcome to another TUNA THURSDAY, in which I blog about my cats. Or about cats in general. Today, I must make an official announcement. I am officially a Crazy Cat Lady. Why? I went to my first cat show!

My head nearly exploded from the cuteness!

Basically, a friend and I decided it would be fun to check out a cat show in nearby Santa Monica. It was a Cat Fanciers’ Association All Breed Cat Show presented by the Santa Monica Cat Clubย at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.ย The theme? “Tiki Time.” OF COURSE I had to check this out! ๐Ÿ™‚

(Keep reading after the jump to find out more about my cat show adventure!)

A cat show, I quickly discovered, was like ComicCon. But with cats. LOL! We jokingly called it “CaticCon.” There were 300-plus pedigreed cats and kittens being exhibited, as well as household pets. Basically, you could walk around all the exhibit rows featuring cat cage after cat cage filled with the most adorable cats ever! They also had a judging area where you could sit and watch the judges critique each cat and announce the ribbon winners. The breeds includedย Abyssinian, Somali, Burmese, Siamese, Cornish Rex, Persian, Ocicat, Maine Coon, Himalayan and many more varieties of cats.

There were also many booths hawking everything from cat magnets to cat dishware to cat jewelry to cat T-shirts. ๐Ÿ™‚ Not to mention different cat food and cat litter booths hawking their products as well. It was really fun to browse at these booths. And no, I did not buy anything, although I was sorely tempted. ๐Ÿ™‚

During the judging, the judge would hold up each cat and pet it, hold up a cat toy to see how the cat reacted, and examined its face and ears very carefully. One cat stole the show as he mewled loudly throughout the entire judging, trying to distract her from the other cats by sticking his paw out of the cage to pet her. It was so funny and adorable. This cat stole the show even though he only won second place.

I also saw many household cats that looked like one of my cats, Charlotte, who I think is a part Turkish Van. But these lookalike cats were Japanese bobtails. It made me wonder if I should enter my own cats Oreo, Charlotte and Beethoven. What do you think?

A typical bedtime scene in the Yoo household

Anyway, below are tons of pictures from the cat show for you to enjoy! For more info on the Cat Fanciers’ Association and the Santa Monica Cat Club, check out this link:

And now… pictures from the cat show! ๐Ÿ™‚

This cat show was like ComicCon! But with cats! ๐Ÿ™‚

Many cats being exhibited were veteran winners!

Owners really decked out their cats in their finest!

I saw some exotic cats, including these adorable curly-haired kittens!

Some cat cages were all decked out in fancy decorations!

I saw a lot of HUGE Maine Coons. I thought my Oreo was big at 17 lbs, but he's tiny compared to these bruisers!

Hello, Ole Blue Eyes! ๐Ÿ™‚

The cat owners made sure their cats were well fed during the long day of preening for attendees!

This is Patches, a ribbon winner, who looked just like my Charlotte. He was a Japanese bobtail. I saw tons of Charlotte lookalikes!

These cats were totally chillaxin'...

One cat hid from the crowds in these nifty cat sacks. LOL!

Many cat cages were decorated for the "Tiki Time" theme!

One of the judges prepares to inspect the next batch of kitties.

Here is an example of how each cat was displayed during the judging. They would wipe down the counter each time with disinfectant in order to keep the area clean for each cat.

A judge holdes up a very pliable - and agreeable - cat for judging display.

My cats would have gone NUTS at these cat toy booths!

Got Cat? Lots of fun T-shirts available!

You could also get cat plates...

... cat purses and cat cell phone covers...

.... cat paintings and cat art...

... and cat magnets! ๐Ÿ™‚

LOL! I hope you enjoyed this tour of my first cat show! In conclusion, I leave you with this funny T-shirt I saw in which sadly, I think I have committed the majority of things on its list… yikes! ๐Ÿ™‚

How many things on this list have you been guilty of? ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, Paula, I’ve missed your blog, but your return coincides with an unexpectedly busy period in my life (darn those fates of the universe!). I need to drop by at least on Thursdays because while I think it’s totally cool that you worked on Eureka and are a talented writer and musician and more, it’s your kitties who hold my heart! I’ve always been a cat person.

I think your sweet cats could totally win an award at a cat show! They are tons prettier than some of the cats there!

One day, I will convince hubby that we need a cat again.
